Emigrating without stress

First of all: good preparation is half the battle. It sounds cliché, and it is, but there’s truth in it. So, bring in several specialists who can help you get started. This will help you avoid the initial stress. Arranging all sorts of things takes more time than if you were moving within the Netherlands.

One advantage is that Austrian bureaucracy is quite comparable to Dutch bureaucracy: things are handled well and reasonably quickly.

As an EU citizen, you can stay in Austria for up to three months without a visa or residence permit. If you plan to stay in Austria for more than three months, you’ll need to apply for a residence permit. You will also need this residence permit to rent or buy a property, open a bank account, or access healthcare. Therefore, take care of this immediately upon arrival.
If you have a job in Austria, you’ll be granted a five-year residence permit upon moving. Has your employment contract expired and not been renewed? Keep in mind: you can then only stay in Austria for up to six more months.
Although many people, just like in the Netherlands, speak English, it’s recommended to start learning German right away.
Immerse yourself and delve into the culture. From Mozart to Beethoven, and from goulash soup to Tiroler Gröstl and Knödels. Read up on it and enjoy the local delicacies as well.
