Apply for a Residence Permit in time with the New Zealand Immigration Service, prepare well because this application takes a lot of time and regulations are strict, allow at least a year for this.
When your partner or other family members already live in New Zealand, it's much easier and faster to apply for a Residence Permit. If this is the case, mention this immediately when you register.
